Mobile robots in laboratory automation : a contribution to total automation

Abstract: This dissertation explores the integration of mobile robots into distributed life science laboratories to achieve total automation. It presents navigation methods using LiDAR-based semantic maps, transport and charging designs, and infrastructure-level integration with doors and elevators via IoT and a custom GUI. The robot control system (AIC) connects to the SAMI workflow platform, enabling 24/7 lab automation. The work demonstrates how mobile robots improve lab efficiency and coordination.
