Abstract: The aseptic loosening of the femoral component of a bicondylar knee endoprosthesis is partly caused by material-specific factors (particle or metal ion-induced osteolysis and mechanical stress shielding). The presented cumulative dissertation dealt with the experimental and computer-aided investigation of a femoral component of a bicondylar knee endoprosthesis based on a multifunctional hybrid material made of an alumina-reinforced zirconia ceramic and a Ti/Nb/Ta alloy.
