Developing efficient electrocatalytic systems for converting small molecules to valuable products : from catalyst design to device implementation

Abstract: Electrocatalysis enables the conversion of small molecules to value-added compounds. The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction at the cathode presents a dual opportunity: energy conversion and CO2 utilization. Within the electrolyzer, the oxygen evolution reaction in aqueous phase poses an efficient anodic counterpart, donating protons and electrons for cathodic CO2 conversion. This work is focused on developing new and improved catalysts for these two reactions, as well as on the implementation in electrolyzers under practically relevant conditions.
