Abstract: The grounded theory study examines the initial teaching experiences of teacher training students at the University of Rostock. It reconstructs subjective patterns of interpretation and coping during a highly emotional probationary phase in which students oscillate between self-realization, fears of being overwhelmed, and doubts about their suitability. The central category is the “establishment of career-related decision-making stability in the mode of coping.” The results emphasize the need for teacher training that is based on biographical reflection and oriented toward coherence.
