Abstract: This study modified the MDCell process to generate regenerated cellulose films more effectively. Lithium chloride was found to act as an efficient plasticizer for regenerated cellulose films, increasing the elongation at break sevenfold. Furthermore, [N4,4,4,4]OH is able to dissolve large amounts of chitosan, enabling to create a homogeneous solution of cellulose and chitosan. By adjusting ratios, the biological and physicochemical properties of blended films can be tuned. These films, which degrade rapidly in soil and seawater, offer a sustainable alternative to fossil-based plastics.
