Abstract: RFID is widely used in poultry behavioural research, but species-specific methodological standards for chickens remain lacking, leading to inconsistent deployment, validation, and behavioural inference. These gaps are addressed through four papers. Paper I reviews RFID studies (2003–2023) and proposes a standardised roadmap. Paper II demonstrates the limits of inferring behaviour from presence data. Paper III introduces a computer-vision validation tool achieving >95% F1-score. Paper IV applies these methods in a mobile poultry barn, highlighting strengths and remaining limitations.
