Der Artikel analysiert die Bewertungskriterien für den Abituraufsatz im Fach Deutsche
Sprache und Literatur in der DDR sowie deren Entwicklung von den 1950er Jahren bis
1989 und gibt einen Einblick in deren Diskussion. Dazu werden Schwerpunkte der Debatten
sowohl auf bildungspolitischer und -administrativer Ebene als auch auf der Ebene der
schulischen Praxis herausgearbeitet. Anhand der ausgewerteten Dokumente kann gezeigt
werden, wie sich die Bewertungsrichtlinien im Zusammenspiel der Akteure auf unterschiedlichen
Ebenen des Bildungssystems weiterentwickelt haben. Zum anderen spiegeln die Diskussionen,
dass trotz aller Versuche zur Durchsetzung einheitlicher, objektiver Standards subjektive
Bewertungsspielräume fortbestanden und Lehrkräfte einen ständigen Balanceakt zwischen
Objektivierung und pädagogischem Ermessen zu leisten hatten.

The article analyses the assessment criteria for the final exam essay in the subject
of German Language and Literature in the GDR, tracking its development from the 1950s
to 1989 and offering insights into the surrounding discussions. The article highlights
focal points of the debates on both the educational policy and administrative levels,
as well as in practical application within schools. Based on the documents evaluated,
it demonstrates how assessment guidelines evolved through interactions among stakeholders
at various levels of the educational system. Furthermore, the discussions reflect
that despite efforts to enforce uniform, objective standards, subjective assessment
margins persisted, requiring teachers to constantly balance objectivity with pedagogical
discretion.
