Abstract: This work deals with vehicular traffic flow from a physical point of view. At first an overview about traffic science is given and it is discussed, why it makes sense to create traffic models. After that a trajectory data set of an american highway is analyzed. Errors in the data set are corrected and velocities and accelerations are determined with the help of a smoothing algorithm. Based on the corrected data set a simulation was written, at which several traffic models are tested, calibrated and compared to each other.
