Abstract: This thesis examines the influence of performance assessment through numerical grades on the motivation of high school students in and for physical education class. In addition to a theoretical investigation of the topic, ten guided interviews with students from grades 10-13 are analyzed using qualitative analysis in order to answer the research question. The results confirm a clear connection between numerical grades and motivation and show ways in which performance assessment in PE lessons can promote learning and motivational processes.
