Vor dem Hintergrund wachsender Politikverdrossenheit gewinnt Bürgerbeteiligung als
demokratisches Instrument zunehmend an Bedeutung. Untersucht wird, was Menschen in
ländlichen Räumen motiviert bzw. daran hindert an Beteiligungsprozessen teilzunehmen
sowie welche gruppenspezifischen Hürden für Beteiligung bestehen. Grundlage bildet
ein qualitatives interpretatives Forschungsdesign. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass sich
lokal und kosmopolitisch orientierte Typen identifizieren lassen, die sich hinsichtlich
ihrer Motivationen, Hemmnisse sowie ihrer Beteiligungsbedürfnisse deutlich unterscheiden.

Against the backdrop of growing disillusionment with politics, citizen participation
is becoming increasingly important as a democratic instrument. This study examines
what motivates or prevents people in rural areas from participating in participatory
processes and what group-specific barriers to participation exist. It is based on
a qualitative interpretative research design. The results show that locally and cosmopolitan-oriented
types can be identified, which differ significantly in terms of their motivations,
inhibitions and participation needs.
