Abstract: Nick Thoben's academic thesis, entitled “Zwischen Staatsstreich und Vernichtungskrieg: Der Stab der Heeresgruppe Mitte als Schaltzentrale des militärischen Widerstands 1941–1944” analyzes the prominent role played by this military unit in the opposition to the Nazi regime. The thesis fills a gap in research by systematically examining Heeresgruppe Mitte (HGr. Mitte) not only as a marginal phenomenon of July 20, 1944, but as an independent and central center of opposition.
