Abstract: We aimed to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of intramyocardial autologous umbilical cord blood mononuclear cell transplantation on right ventricular (RV) function in a novel model of chronic RV volume overload, including transannular patch augmentation and pulmonary annulus distortion without cardiopulmonary bypass. Our results indicate that surgically induced RV overload constitutes a valid large animal model and conductance-catheter-analyses as well as immunohistological examinations reveal that the chronically volume-overloaded RV profits from stem cell therapy.
