Abstract: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia worldwide and is associated with various comorbidities, especially in older people. AF is associated with an increased risk of thromboembolism and dementia caused by micro-infarcts in the brain. In patients with symptomatic AF, rhythm control with an anti-arrhythmic drug or catheterablation is recommended. In this context, the prevalence and progression of cognitive dysfunction in patients after catheterablation or drug antiarrhythmic therapy was investigated.

Vorhofflimmern (VHF) ist weltweit die häufigste Herzrhythmusstörung und ist vor allem bei älteren Menschen mit diversen Komorbiditäten vergesellschaftet. VHF geht mit einem erhöhten Risiko für Thrombembolien und demenziellen Erkrankungen durch Mikroinfarkte im Gehirn einher. Bei Patienten mit symptomatischem VHF wird eine Rhythmuskontrolle mit einem Antiarrythmikum oder eine Ablation empfohlen. In diesem Kontext wurde die Prävalenz und Progression kognitiver Dysfunktionen bei Patienten nach Katheterablation oder medikamentöser antiarrhythmischer Therapie untersucht. [German]
