Abstract: The hippocampus plays a significant role in pathophysiological learning processes. Activity-dependent synaptic plasticity is a crucial neurophysiological requirement for hippocampal synapses. High-frequency magnetic stimulation (HFMS) can induce LTP effects. Priming hippocampal slice preparations with HFMS leads to enhanced increases in the activity of hippocampal synapses. Group 1 mGlu receptors (mGlu 1 and mGlu 5) influence HFMS-mediated metaplasticity. A distinct regulation of mGlu1 and mGlu5 is to be assumed.
