Abstract: This study focused on histone modifications and their role in epithelial cell models MAC-T and pbMEC exposed to mastitis pathogens Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Main insights were gained by molecular techniques, including N-ChIP-qPCR, RNA-seq, and X-ChIP-seq. Both cell types upregulated immune genes in response to pathogen contact. The findings revealed significantly different gene expression and peaks for H3K4me3 and H3K27me3 between MAC-T and pbMEC. Moreover, the genome-wide data indicated epigenetic control of upregulated genes after the Escherichia coli challenge in pbMEC.
