Abstract: The welfare of farmed fish is a major concern in sustainable aquaculture. This thesis identified welfare bioindicators significantly affected in Atlantic salmon under changing farming conditions due to new farming strategies and fed with microalgae-enriched diets. The changing farming conditions triggered only mild stress and immune responses in the fish. Microalgae have species-specific effects on fish health, and their mitigation potential is limited on the effects of changing farming conditions. This thesis advances the assessment of the welfare status of Atlantic salmon.
