Abstract: Significant parameters of mixture formation and combustion processes in diesel engines are injection pressure and nozzle flow rate. The effects of very high injection pressure while varying nozzle flow rate in part and full load operation are investigated. Experiments are carried out using a single-cylinder engine. The fuel injection system is capable to deliver system pressures up to 2800 bar. Hydraulic measurements of the nozzles, an empirical spray model to describe the penetration behavior of Diesel sprays as well as 3D-CFD engine simulations support the engine test results.
