Abstract: The thesis presents a fully automatic method for the generation of panel meshes at ship hulls. At first the requirements of potential flow codes on the panel meshes and their influence on accuracy are investigated. The mesh generation process starts with the preparation of IGES hull definitions, including topology recovering and automatic knuckle detection. A major part of the thesis deals with the analysis of special features of the ship hull. Several methods for the identification of characteristic regions of a ship hull are presented. For the creation of panel meshes two different methods for structured and unstructured panel meshes are described in detail. Examples of fully automatic created panel meshes are demonstrated and compared to manual created meshes.
